PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Former freelance journalist Michael Bivins was convicted by a jury in a Multnomah County court on multiple charges ranging from bias crimes to arson.

He was found guilty on 11 charges in total, including one count of first-degree arson, five counts of first-degree criminal mischief and five counts of second-degree bias crime.

This comes after Bivins vandalized two Jewish temples, set fire to a mosque and targeted a downtown Portland restaurant over the course of 10 days back in 2022.

He was a freelance journalist for a number of news organizations in recent years, often covering political extremism.

The verdict came after a four-hour deliberation by the jury and the sentencing is expected to take place in September.
