We’re in for a stormy stretch in Chicagoland to end the work week.
Before storms arrive, it’ll be a pleasant summer Thursday around the area, with lake breezes making for a wide range of temperatures. Lakeside areas will see highs in the upper 70s, while far inland locations could get close to 90.
Southern areas are also getting some heavy fog early Thursday morning, with a Dense Fog Advisory in effect until 9 a.m. for Kankakee County.
Additionally, Thursday’s lake breezes will create hazardous swimming conditions along shoreline areas in Northwest Indiana, especially early. A Beach Hazards Statement remains in effect until 10 a.m. for Lake and Porter counties, with waves from 2 to 4 feet expected.
Timing of storms
A line of showers and storms that’s off to the west Thursday morning will move into Chicagoland as early as around noon Thursday, with increased chances for storms during the mid- to later afternoon hours and continuing overnight into Friday morning.
After a lull, another round of storms is expected Friday afternoon into Friday night.
There’s no significant threat for severe weather on Thursday, but it can’t be ruled out. Strong to severe storms are more likely on Friday, as of now.
Humidity levels then look to increase for the coming weekend and into next week (see more below).
