CHICAGO (WGN) — Chicago native and actor Michael Madsen’s cause of death has been revealed, according to multiple reports from entertainment outlets.

The 67-year-old “Kill Bill” actor, who was found dead at his Malibu home on Thursday, July 3, died of heart failure, his cardiologist told Los Angeles’ KNBC-TV. Heart disease and alcoholism will be listed as contributing factors.

Madsen’s manager, Ron Smith, said cardiac arrest was the apparent cause, and no foul play was suspected.

Madsen’s career spanned more than 300 credits, dating back to the early 1980s, with many in low-budget and independent films. He often played low-level thugs, gangsters, and shady cops in minor roles.

Madsen was born in Chicago in 1957 to a family of three children, including his actress sister, Virginia Madsen. Madsen also got his start at Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre Company, alongside actors such as John Malkovich.

He’s best known for his work in “Kill Bill,” “Reservoir Dogs,” and “Donnie Brasco.”
