Woman records close encounter with mountain lion on California trail

(KTLA) – A woman had a tense encounter with a mountain lion while walking on a popular hiking trail in the Southern California city of Ojai recently.

The scary moment took place on July 3 as Cortney Rasura was hiking alone on the Gridley Trail.

Rasura told Nexstar’s KTLA she was looking down at her phone when she caught a glimpse of the mountain lion and started recording as the animal walked directly toward her.

An experienced hiker, Rasura knew not to run but instead maintained eye contact with the animal and is heard shouting “No!” multiple times on the video.

The mountain lion eventually turns and runs behind some bushes and out of view.

Rasura said there has been no sign of the mountain lion since, however, she is also rethinking hiking the trail alone for now.
