The Bridge Alzheimer’s & Dementia Center opens respite care Day Center

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — The Bridge Alzheimer’s & Dementia Resource Center has announced the Ribbon Cutting and Open House for The Bridge Adult Day Center.

The Day Center is a pilot program designed to provide caregivers with a reprieve from their duties while allowing their charges the opportunity for social engagement.

Respite care benefits both caregivers and individuals with dementia. Caregivers can reduce stress and burnout by taking a break from their responsibilities. Meanwhile, patients often experience reduced symptoms, enhanced mood, and a higher quality of life when participating in structured day programs.

Laura Gauthier, Assistant Executive Director of The Bridge Alzheimer’s & Dementia Resource Center, said, “Caring for a loved one with dementia can be physically and emotionally exhausting. Our goal is to provide caregivers with the time they need to rest and recharge while ensuring their loved ones have a meaningful and enriching experience.”

The Bridge, the first dementia-focused respite care facility in Northwest Louisiana, provides the Adult Care Center at no cost to families thanks to a grant from the Alzheimer’s Association Center for Dementia Respite Innovation (CDRI).

The Bridge is “a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing education, resources, and support for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, as well as their caregivers. Through programs like The Bridge Adult Day Center, the organization continues its mission of enhancing the quality of life for those affected by dementia in our community.”
