Pennsylvania task force responds to Texas to help after floods

(WHTM)– A Pennsylvania-based task force is responding to Texas this week to support search and rescue efforts after catastrophic flooding.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro released a statement on X, saying that members of PA Task Force One, a federal Urban Search and Rescue Team from Philadelphia, have been activated to lead a multi-state support team to Texas for search and rescue efforts.

According to the organization’s website, the 28 US&R task forces nationwide were established under the authority of FEMA in 1989 and are deployed to disaster areas to provide support.

In addition to the multi-state response effort, Mexico’s President, Claudia Sheinbaum, says a group of Firefighters from Mexico responded to Kerrville, Texas, on Sunday to assist with search and rescue efforts, per Border Report.

The death toll from the flooding in Texas over the Fourth of July weekend reached 104 on Monday as crews continue search and rescue efforts, according to the Associated Press. Among those who lost their lives were 27 campers and counselors from Camp Mystic, a Christian girls’ camp in Central Texas.
