CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A crash overnight took the life of one person and injured four others, according to the Mecklenburg EMS Agency (Medic).

The crash was first reported around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 9, on Interstate 85 northbound between Sam Wilson Road and Little Rock Road.

Medic says the West Mecklenburg Fire Department pronounced one person dead at the site of the crash. Medic and Gaston County Emergency Medical Services (GEMS) worked together to bring a total of four people with minor injuries to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center.

The interstate was partially closed for hours, but reopened around 5:30 a.m., according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT).

What appears to be a second nearby incident also closed the ramp from Interstate 485 northbound to I-85 in the area also around 1:30 a.m., but reopened just before 6 a.m.
