The search continues for the rest of the missing family.
MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Neighbors are praying for Eddie Santana-Negron and Ileana Santana, a local West Mobile couple who have been missing due to the Texas floods in Kerr County.
When News 5 went out to the Santana’s home on Tuesday, no cars were in the driveway. Neighbors of the family say they are praying for the couple’s safe return.
When we first showed neighbor Danielle Pugh a photo of Eddie and Ileana, she didn’t realize that the couple just down the street from her were the ones missing.
“When I saw the picture, I was like, man, that looks familiar. I didn’t put together that it was them,” Pugh said. “Sweet couple, super great family. Just such a tragedy,” she continued.
Pugh said that she always sees the couple hosting family parties in the backyard and frequently sees the grandchildren playing outside.
“It just hits home that, you know, life can change very quickly,” Pugh said.
Another neighbor, Marilyn Johnston, said that although she did not know the Santanas, she is still heartbroken over what happened just a few houses down from hers.
“That hurts a lot. I mean, especially surprising. And it’s sad that I didn’t know them,” Johnston said. “It’s almost more than you can handle.”
Eddie and Ileana Santana went to visit their son Eddie Jr, his wife, Camille, and their 5-year-old daughter, Mila, when their cabin was swept off its foundation into the raging river.
“It’s the tragedy is such that it makes me want to cry,” said Johnston.
