SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Happy Tuesday, Utah! Our Tuesday afternoon is going to feature hazy sunshine and hot temperatures. Highs will warm into the mid to upper 90s along the Wasatch Front, with highs around 106° for St. George. Winds will begin to become a bit more breezy out of the southwest, especially for areas west of I-15 Tuesday afternoon.

The “heat dome” strengthens over Utah moving into Wednesday, leading to continued hazy sunshine and likely the warmest temperatures of the week. Highs will climb into the upper 90s to low 100s for the Wasatch Front, with highs climbing near 108°-110° for St. George. Winds will likely be gusty all across the Beehive state on Wednesday, leading to some gusts out of the SW between 20-35 mph. The gusty winds combined with the hot temperatures, very low humidity levels, and dry vegetation will lead to an elevated if not critical fire danger across the state. A Fire Weather Watch for SW Utah has been upgraded to Fire Weather Warning for Wednesday afternoon and evening. Plan on using extra caution if you’re going to be doing anything potentially flammable outside on Wednesday afternoon.

A weak cool front moves through Wednesday night bringing continued gusty winds but looking like a mostly dry frontal passage. An isolated high-based shower or two may pop up over the mountains Wednesday afternoon but any rain should remain very isolated. Overnight lows will stay mild dipping down into the 60s and 70s.

Slightly cooler air arrives for the latter half of the week, with continued dry weather. Daytime highs will only be in the upper 80s and low 90s along the Wasatch Front, with highs back to near 105° for SW Utah.

Enjoy the brief cooldown, as daytime highs will climb once again move through the upcoming weekend. High pressure re-builds, leading to mid to upper 90s for the Wasatch Front and temps between 107°-110° for St. George by the end of the weekend.
