Harvest Regional resilient to increased demand thanks to partnerships

TEXARKANA, Ark. (KTAL/KMSS) — “Anything that impacts the lives of those people who we serve, whether it’s SNAP benefits or other programs, it’s going to have an impact on the number of meals that we then need to provide to the community.” says Camille Wrinkle, Executive Director of the Harvest Regional Food Bank.

She says that no matter what, their mission to feed the communities they serve does not change. One reason they are confident in their abilities to meet any increase in demand is because of the partnerships they have formed.

“Anytime we’re able to partner with any industries, it really helps us lighten the load.” says Wrinkle.

One of those partnerships is with Tyson Foods, who provides funding to help expand the food bank’s reach and food to supplement what they are able to offer.

“When you think about the typical food distribution being canned foods, dry beans, we’re able to supplement that with high quality protein that can be used throughout the communities that they serve.” says Tem Gunter, Associate Director of HR for Tyson Foods.

They have also partnered with health care providers like Christus on their Healthy Prescription Food Box program. They work with clinics to identify people who are both food insecure and suffering from medical issues like diabetes or high blood pressure.

“Where food can really serve as medicine.” says Wrinkle.

The food bank believes these partnerships are crucial to their mission because they can go further together.

“When we have corporate partners like Tyson or Christus that can come along and bring their skills and resources to the table, we bring our skills and resources to the table, and we’re able to serve double the number of people.” says Wrinkle.
