Girl hit by train at railroad crossing in Rochelle

ROCHELLE, Ill. (WTVO) — A girl was hit by a train late Tuesday while trying to cross railroad tracks after the gates went down, according to authorities.

According to the Rochelle Police and Fire Departments, emergency responders were called to the railroad crossing on 9th Street around 10:42 p.m.

The juvenile victim was conscious and breathing when authorities arrived on the scene. She was taken to Rochelle Community Hospital and then flown to OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.

Her age and current condition are unknown.

Investigators said the gates were down and the warning signal was on when the victim attempted to cross the tracks.

The Rochelle Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident.
