
This latest round of layoffs will see Cruise cut 101 jobs at three Bay Area locations. The bulk of the layoffs, 85, will be at the company’s Bryant Street location in San Francisco. The company is also cutting two jobs at its SF headquarters on Cesar Chavez Street, and 14 jobs in Sunnyvale.
The job cuts took effect on July 3, and all the layoffs are permanent, according to the WARN notice.
While Cruise’s main competitor Waymo has seen its business expand in the Bay Area and beyond, Cruise struggles in the aftermath of a 2024 accident in which one of its autonomous robotaxis struck a pedestrian.
The pedestrian, a woman, was hit by a regular vehicle before landing in the path of the Cruise. The driverless vehicle then ran her over and stopped on top of her, trapping her underneath.
In October, Cruise had its driverless taxi testing permits suspended by the DMV.
