Caruana has served as sheriff since 2013. He assumed the role after the departure of former Sheriff Dominic Iasparro and won re-election in 2018.
A graduate of the FBI National Academy, Caruana has overseen the department’s adoption of body-worn cameras and the Crisis Co-Response Team, which pairs social workers with deputies and police officers when responding to non-violent calls.
“I am proud of the men and women of the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office and, if the voters let me, I will continue to provide public safety for our county and the kind of leadership that they deserve,” Caruana said in a statement.
