By rssfeeds-admin In a closed-door hearing with the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday, Dr. O’Connor frustrated Republicans by invoking the Fifth Amendment.
Republican Congressman James Comer is leading the investigation into the former president’s health. He sats the first two questions that the committee asked Dr. O’Connor were ‘were you ever told to lie about the President’s health?’ and ‘Did you ever believe President Biden was unfit to execute his duty?’
Comer slammed O’Connor for invoking the fifth amendment in response.
“What Dr O’Connor did today only added fuel to the fire that there was a cover-up and that Joe Biden wasn’t mentally fit to serve as president of the United States,” Comer said. “I think this is something every American is concerned about.”
It’s not uncommon for witnesses to invoke their Fifth Amendment rights in testimony to Congress and O’Connor’s lawyers say he has an ethical obligation to keep patient health information private.
Democratic Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett defended O’Connor.
“I think that he did what any good lawyer would advise him to do,” Crockett said.
She also pushed back against Republicans’ claims about former President Biden’s health.
“Granted, I didn’t see Joe Biden every single day but I did have an opportunity to interact with the president I never had a concern,” Crockett said.
She argues it’s time for Republicans to move on.
“I don’t understand why we keep looking backwards. The reality is that the country wasn’t off the rails when Joe Biden was sitting in the White House, the country is off the rails right now,” Crockett said.
Republicans are seeking testimony from several former Biden aides and Comer says their investigation is ongoing.
