According to Berkerleyside, the store has 13 employees who will receive a severance depending on whether they work through the closing date. The employees were encouraged to apply to other HPB stores.
Other Bay Area locations include Dublin, Fremont and Concord.
The Berkeley store, located at 2036 Shattuck Ave., is scheduled to sell its last book on Nov. 30.
HPB was founded by book lovers Pat Anderson and Ken Gjemre in 1942. The flagship location was in an old laundromat in Dallas, Texas. The company now has stores in 19 states and is still headquartered in Dallas.
