According to an affidavit, deputies were called to the 1700 block of Gardere Lane on July 4 about a reported shooting. When they arrived, deputies found spent bullet casings in the parking lot.
During the investigation, detectives were able to get video surveillance from the business and saw the suspect’s vehicle, a 2025 Honda Civic, enter the parking lot.
Randolph Harris, 23, was identified as the driver of the vehicle. According to the arrest warrant, he was seen with a black handgun with an extended magazine in his waistband. When he exited the store, detectives saw the gun tucked under one of his armpits. Detectives noted that Harris did not have any face coverings and was wearing a white t-shirt and light blue jeans.
The sheriff’s office said Harris allegedly shot at the victims before driving off. Muzzle flashes could be seen on the surveillance video, detectives say.
During the shooting, a bystander was inside his vehicle, which was hit by a bullet. The bystander was reportedly injured by glass from the windshield.
Harris was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on July 7 on five counts of attempted first-degree murder, and one count each of aggravated criminal damage to property, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, machine gun handling, and resisting an officer, according to jail records.
He was previously convicted of aggravated assault with a firearm in April 2021.
