2 simultaneous closures along State Road 32 implemented in Hamilton County

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. — Several projects are underway along State Road 32 in Hamilton County.

The City of Noblesville closed State Road 32 at Hague Road to put in a new roundabout as part of its Reimagine Pleasant Street project on July 7.

The addition will hopefully help reduce the overall congestion City officials see going into the downtown square.

“This is going to allow another access point across the White River through our downtown,” said Mayor Chris Jensen.

“When this project is completely open, they’ll have a new east to west corridor going through our community.”

Crews are already ripping up the street in just the first few days of work. The 10-minute reroute around the closure already has drivers confused.

“The main access point and detour will be Little Chicago Road on the west side up to State Road 38,” said Jensen.

There’s also another roadblock just 4 miles down the road for the 32 Connects project.

Since April, the major thoroughfare has been under construction in downtown Westfield as well.

“This project is to widen 32, add travel lanes, add a raised median, increase the capacity of the roadway so traffic can flow much smoother once we’re done on this project,” said Jennifer Beck, project manager for INDOT.

The two Hamilton County cities said that, while the closures will be troublesome for drivers for the foreseeable future, they’ve been in constant communication to make sure everything is completed without a hitch.

“Sometimes you run up against funding deadlines and different funding sources that have to be used by certain times, so that’s what we’re seeing here is the coordination the best we can but it’s gonna be painful,” said Jensen.

Union Street in Westfield just opened up, creating less of a hassle to detour, but downtown will be a work zone for quite a while.

“We are going to have the rest of 32 here closed until October,” said Beck.

“Everything is going pretty smoothly. We’re working with utilities. We’re all working together. It’s a tight construction zone with everybody on top of each other, but we’re all working really well.”

State Road 32 in Noblesville will also be opened in October.

All of the construction in Noblesville is scheduled to be complete by the end of this year. The work in Westfield is expected to be finished by the end of 2026.
