According to the Freeport Police Department, an officer was in the area of Chicago Avenue and Dexter Street around 3:45 p.m. when he saw a gray Honda Accord chasing a black sedan west on Pleasant Street from Chicago Avenue.
The officer caught up with the Honda in the 700 block of S. Benton Avenue, where it stopped. Authorities said two occupants of the Honda, Isiah Cancel, 19, and Tashaun Hicks, 19, got out and challenged the occupants of the black sedan to a fight.
Multiple officers arrived on-scene and were able to place Cancel and Hicks in custody.
At that point, police said Estevan Munoz, 18, arrived on the scene and attempted to intervene in the arrest, pushing and injuring a female officer.
Munoz was arrested and charged with aggravated battery to a police officer.
Cancel was charged with reckless driving and disorderly conduct.
Hicks was charged with disorderly conduct.
Munoz was taken to the Stephenson County Jail, pending the outcome of a pretrial detention hearing.
