Texas ranks third worst for outdoor allergies, says new report

DALLAS (KDAF) — A new allergy report reveals that Texas ranks as the third worst state in the U.S. for outdoor allergies, driven by high levels of grass, tree, and ragweed pollen.

Researchers at HouseFresh analyzed nationwide data on the most common outdoor allergens, assigning each location a severity score from 0 (low) to 10 (severe) to determine where allergy sufferers are most affected.

Texas ranks third worst overall for outdoor allergies, with an average severity rating of 7.96 out of 10 across all three pollen types. Only Oklahoma and Arkansas scored higher.

Laredo, San Antonio and Lubbock ranked among the top five in the country.

Three cities in Texas ranked among the top five worst cities in the nation for outdoor allergies:

Rank City State Outdoor Allergen Severity Score (out of 10)
1 Laredo Texas 9.11
2 Oklahoma City Oklahoma 8.74
3 San Antonio Texas 8.37
4 Lubbock Texas 8.18
5 Orlando Florida 7.91
