Vallejo police responded to the 60th block of Admiral Callaghan Lane for the report of a shooting on Saturday. The victim told authorities that he was in a verbal disagreement with another man who brandished a gun at him, fired multiple rounds into the air and then fled in a Toyota Camry.
Arriving officers found several spent casings at the scene.
Police said several witnesses detailed the suspect and his car. Officers found the suspect’s car parked on Fleming Court. Officers attempted to approach the vehicle. However, the suspect sped off, ignoring multiple stop signs and driving in the wrong direction, VPD said. Less than two minutes later, police said, the suspect crashed into a tree on the 600 block of Admiral Callaghan Lane.
Vallejo PD then arrested the suspect and found a loaded and unregistered firearm. Police discovered through investigation that the suspect has several felony convictions, including attempted murder with a firearm, armed robbery with a firearm, and driving under the influence resulting in injury.
The suspect was medically cleared to be arrested. He was booked into Solano County Jail on multiple felony charges, including discharge of a firearm with gross negligence, evading police, and felon in possession of a firearm.
The suspect’s vehicle was towed from the scene, and his gun was taken into evidence.
On the same day, a Vallejo woman was killed in a shooting on the 400 block of Admiral Callaghan Lane. Police have not confirmed if the shootings are related.
