CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police swarmed the Stratford Richardson YMCA on West Boulevard Tuesday morning for reports of an injured person.

Crime scene tape now blocks the entrance to the YMCA, and several CMPD vehicles are parked outside. Medic confirmed a shooting in the area seriously injured one person.

Medic told Queen City News that they treated one person at the scene and transported them to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center for emergency care. The shooting happened somewhere in the 1900 block of West Boulevard, though it’s still unclear exactly where.

A childcare facility across the street is on a modified lockdown while authorities investigate.

Police haven’t released many details yet, including whether the shooting happened directly at the YMCA or nearby. Queen City News has reached out to CMPD for more information.
