Mayor Johnson: Chicago sees least violent Fourth of July weekend in 6 years

During a press conference on Tuesday, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson spoke briefly about the impact of President Trump’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill,’ but focused mostly on public safety over the holiday weekend.

Johnson noted that the city experienced its least violent Fourth of July holiday in at least six years, continuing a promising trend of declining violence.

According to Johnson, the decline in holiday weekend violence is just one of several accomplishments of his administration, adding that since taking office, more than 20,000 guns have been removed from the city’s streets.

During the news conference, the mayor also discussed the deadly mass shooting that left four dead and 14 others injured just days ahead of the holiday weekend.

While discussing ways to prevent future violence, Johnson underscored the importance of investing in community resources and programs.
