The funding will allow TCSG to create the “Top State for Talent Apprenticeship Incentive Fund”. The fund’s goal is to offset the costs employers incur when hiring and training apprentices in high-demand occupations.
U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff says the grant program will help Georgia technical schools expand their apprenticeship programs, helping assist and train more Georgians.
“I’ve secured these funds to support training and on-the-job experiences for Georgians,” Sen. Ossoff said. “I want to help Georgians who otherwise lack access to job training and skills training get those skills, get that experience, and get these jobs.”
Through an application process, employers can apply to receive $2,000 per apprentice. Employers can also partner with local workforce development boards and technical colleges to obtain funds up to $5,000.
“This investment to expand apprenticeships means more Georgians can build their futures here and more Georgia businesses can find and retain the skilled workers they need,” said Deputy Commissioner of Workforce Development Karen Kirchler. “Apprenticeships mean partnerships. To build a workforce that can compete globally, we need to work together.”
The Technical College System of Georgia says this is the largest federal apprenticeship grant awarded in Georgia history.
