Federal court grants temporary restraining order against law ‘defunding’ Planned Parenthood

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Federal court has granted a temporary restraining order to Planned Parenthood after the organization filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration over a provision that “defunds” their care centers by denying Medicaid.

The Planned Parenthood Association of Utah filed the lawsuit Monday against the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services regarding a provision in the “Big, Beautiful Bill” that eliminates patients’ ability to use Medicaid as insurance at their health centers nationwide.

The court’s restraining order grants Planned Parenthood temporary reprieve during their battle with the Trump administration.

The Planned Parenthood Federation of America has released the following statement on the matter:

We’re grateful that the court acted swiftly to block this unconstitutional law attacking Planned Parenthood providers and patients. Already, in states across the country, providers and health center staff have been forced to turn away patients who use Medicaid to get basic sexual and reproductive health care because President Trump and his backers in Congress passed a law to block them from going to Planned Parenthood. There are no other providers who can fill the gap if the ‘defunding’ of Planned Parenthood is allowed to stand. The fight is just beginning, and we look forward to our day in court.
