Dangerous heat, along with storms, returns for muggy Tuesday

CHARLOTTE (PINPOINT WEATHER) — The air you can wear, or tropical air mass, is back on Tuesday. The increase in the humidity is also going to allow for more dangerous heat later this afternoon.

Despite the increase in moisture, we are dry to start the morning, and temperatures are in the low to mid-70s.  We will climb to temperatures in the mid to upper 90s Tuesday afternoon, but feel-like temperatures will climb into the 100-degree range at times later on Tuesday.

While we will stay under heat advisory criteria, you still want to use caution when outdoors. The UV Index is also at an extreme level, meaning you could be burned within 10 minutes of stepping out into the sunlight. 

We may get some relief on Tuesday from a few pop-up storms this afternoon and evening. Heavy rain and locally gusty winds are possible, along with any storms that do develop. Not everyone will see storms, though.

There will be a better chance for more widespread rain and thunderstorms through the middle of the week, with heavy rainfall and locally gusty winds as the main concerns. Areas east of I-77 could experience a higher threat of localized flash flooding due to more saturated ground from Chantal. 

Temperatures will be cooler through the middle of the week because of increased storm coverage. The weekend will still be hot and muggy, but storm chances will be more hit-or-miss for outdoor activities.
