Court records indicate Mendoza is currently being held on no bail in the Santa Clara County Main Jail. He is due to appear in court at 1:35 p.m.
Mendoza was first identified as a person of interest in DiNapoli’s disappearance. He was with DiNapoli when she was last seen alive on the morning of June 29. Following a missing person search, her remains were discovered at Anderson Lake County Park on July 2.
According to the Morgan Hill Police Department, Mendoza refused to cooperate with investigators and vanished soon after the discovery of DiNapoli’s body. He was arrested by United States Marshals at the California-Mexico border while attempting to return to the United States, according to officials.
