TITUS COUNTY, Texas (KTAL/KMSS) — Titus County Sheriff’s Deputies broke up an alleged cockfighting ring in Mount Pleasant, Texas.
Early on July 4, 2025, Titus County Sheriff’s Deputies and Investigators received information that an illegal cockfighting event was taking place in Titus County. Using that information and other evidence, investigators determined the claim to be credible and found probable cause to indicate that a violation was occurring or had occurred on the property.
Officials presented an application for a Search and Arrest Warrant, based on their investigation and a sworn affidavit, to 276th District Judge Michael Kopech, who found probable cause and issued the warrant.
52-year-old Titus County resident Timothy Thompson was arrested on a warrant for Cockfighting, a state felony. Thompson was also arrested for four counts of Cruelty to Livestock Animal, also state felonies, based on information observed by deputies during the execution of the warrant.
Thompson was booked into the Titus County Jail without incident, where he awaits arraignment by a magistrate. The investigation is still ongoing.
