Abilene man faces charges after motorcycle crash kills wife

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – An Abilene man has been arrested for intoxication manslaughter after a motorcycle crash in southwest Abilene claimed the life of his wife.

The crash happened on March 30, 2024, in the 900 block of Leggett Drive. Shanna Bowman was pronounced dead at the scene due to blunt force trauma sustained in the accident.

According to court documents, the motorcycle’s instrument cluster showed they were traveling at 74 mph — well above the posted speed limit. Officers noted the smell of alcohol and observed that the driver, Shannon Pruitt, had glassy eyes. A field sobriety test led officers to conclude that he had “lost his physical and mental faculties.” A blood test later revealed a blood alcohol concentration of .125.

On July 3, 2025, Pruitt was booked into the Taylor County Jail on a charge of intoxication manslaughter. His bond was set at $50,000, and he was released on July 4.
