Rockford Police officers were sent to the 1200 block of Preston Street around 1:10 a.m. after the city’s gunshot detection system alerted authorities to weapons fire in the area.
At the scene, police found 3 juvenile males, one of whom had both fireworks and a loaded gun on their person, authorities said.
The 15-year-old was charged with Reckless Discharge, Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, No Valid Firearm Owner’s Identification, a Curfew Violation, and a Fireworks Violation. He was taken to Juvenile Detention.
Another 15-year-old was charged with Resisting Arrest and then released to a parent or guardian.
A 19-year-old was also detained but released.
