Police arrest juvenile detention center escapee, 19-year-old on drug, gun charges

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A 15-year-old escapee and a 19-year-old were arrested on drug and gun charges in Baton Rouge.

The Baton Rouge Police Department said two people who appeared to be armed were detained after a short foot chase Monday in the 6100 block of St. Gerard Avenue near Airline Highway.

Officers recovered a loaded AR-style pistol converted into a machine gun, a Glock handgun, six grams of marijuana and three grams of crack.

The 15-year-old suspect was identified as an escapee from the Bridge City Youth Center. He was booked into the juvenile detention center on charges of fugitive, possession of a machine gun, possession of a handgun by a juvenile, possession of Schedule II, possession of a firearm with CDS and resisting an officer.

The second suspect, Lawrence Journee, 19, was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of possession of a machine gun, possession of Schedule I, fugitive from New Orleans Police for aggravated assault with a firearm and criminal damage to property, contributing to the deliquency of a juvenile and resisting an officer.

Police noted that both have previously been charged with possession of a machine gun.
