Emma Foltz, a rising senior at Louisiana Tech University, has worked for three years as a camp counselor at Camp Mystic in Texas. According to a Facebook post by Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry, Foltz played “an instrumental role” in moving 14 campers to safety amid the severe flooding.
“Please join me in thanking Emma for all her hard work and bravery under immense pressure,” Landry said in the post. “We continue to pray for all those affected by this travesty. Louisiana is here to help!”
State officials have also shared messages recognizing Foltz’s courage and wishing her safety on numerous official social media accounts.
Commenters responding to the governor’s post shared further praise for Foltz, noting that she chose to serve as a camp counselor despite personal tragedy.
“Even after Emma Foltz lost her mom not even a month ago this young woman decided it was still in her heart to go be an inspiration to young campers at Camp Mystic,” one commenter wrote. “This recognition means a lot. Her and her whole family are the sweetest people you will ever meet and get to know.”
Another wrote: “Thank you Emma for keeping those kids safe. May you find peace knowing that there was a reason you decided to serve at the camp in spite of your own family tragedy. God’s angels are with you during this difficult time and always.”
