Livermore police responded just before 2 a.m. on Saturday to the 300 block of Chestnut Street on the report of a drive-by shooting. Arriving officers located a man in his 20s who was shot and began to provide medical aid. Paramedics rushed the victim to the hospital, and it is expected that he will survive.
Police said no information on the drive-by shooting suspect is being released at this time.
An hour earlier, Livermore officers responded to a report of a stabbing in the area of Chestnut and North I streets. The victim, police said, had visible injuries but was uncooperative with the investigation. No suspect was identified in the case.
A short time before the stabbing, Livermore PD was in the area responding to a “large fight involving approximately 30 people,” according to authorities. One witness told officers a suspect was seen running away from the scene armed with a gun.
A 17-year-old boy was found hiding in a backyard, and a discarded handgun was recovered, according to Livermore PD. The suspect was arrested and booked into Juvenile Hall for carrying a concealed firearm and being a minor in possession of a handgun.
On the night of July 4, police said officers responded to more than 90 fireworks-related calls for service.
“I know the widespread use of illegal fireworks continues to frustrate many in our community, including public safety personnel,” Livermore Police Chief Jeramy Young said. “I want to thank all the officers and dispatchers who worked last night to manage an exceptionally high call volume while continuing to prioritize public safety.”
