Earlier this year, the Belvidere City Council voted unanimously to approve a plan to demolish Dodge Lanes so a new Starbucks and Chipotle can be built on the site, at 1940 N. State Street.
Belvidere residents stopped at nearby businesses to take in the demolition, with some snapping photos or videos to share.
“We’re sad to see the place go because there were many enjoyable experiences that our family had there over the years,” said resident David Swanson. “Our kids, and I’m sure obviously the rest of the community. But, we’re happy to see it. Something new going in here. that’s going to be another, good addition to the community, something brand new. And, so we’re definitely happy about that.”
A construction worker at the site did not have an exact timeline for the demolition, but said it was expected to take several weeks.
