WATCH: Time-lapse video shows illegal fireworks lighting up Fresno skies

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – During this Fourth of July, YourCentralValley.com’s station skycam captured multiple illegal fireworks lighting up the sky in east-central Fresno.

The time-lapse video shows hundreds of illegal fireworks lighting up the sky as the night advances while folks celebrate Independence Day.

The use of illegal fireworks during Independence Day is not uncommon in Fresno. However, this also means that the Fourth of July is the busiest day for the Fresno Fire Department – according to crews, most fires during the holiday are caused by the use of illegal fireworks.

Firefighters warn that fireworks could also cause “real bodily harm” if used incorrectly.

“They’re dangerous. They’re unpredictable. They leave the ground and there’s no controlling where they’re going to go,” Josh Sellers with the Fresno Fire Department said.

Besides fires and possible bodily harm, fire crews advise that those setting off illegal fireworks could also get fines of up to $50,000.
