COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL)- It has been a great start to the weekend. We will stay dry for the rest of our Saturday evening.

Tracking the Tropics: Tropical Storm Chantal formed early this morning in the Atlantic. It is expected to make landfall off the coast of South Carolina and North Carolina early Sunday morning.

Sunday: Temperatures will rise into the mid-90s tomorrow afternoon, thanks to plenty of sunshine. While most areas will stay dry, a few afternoon pop up showers are possible.

Next Week: Readings will continue to rise into the upper 90s for the start of next week. Despite actual readings cooling by midweek, excess humidity will cause heat index readings to reach above 100 degrees. High heat index readings will continue until next Friday.

Rain chances will rise starting Tuesday afternoon. Showers and storms will become more widespread by the end of the week. There will be an opportunity for storms through next weekend.
