According to a press release written by officials at the Howard County Sheriff’s Office, around 9:21 a.m. on Saturday, police responded to the 1700 block of South on 400 East on reports of a vehicle crashed into a building.
The homeowner told police that she was inside the home when she heard a loud noise. When she went to investigate, she found that a black pickup truck had crashed into the backside of her home and the detached garage.
22-year-old Brett Anthony Davis was found in the truck unconscious and unresponsive; he was pronounced dead on the scene.
It was later discovered that he had suffered a gunshot wound. Firearms were also found inside the vehicle.
Police said that evidence suggests that Davis was traveling southbound on County Road 400 East and veered off the east side of the roadway, through a bean field and a tree line before striking a residential garage and then coming to a rest inside the detached garage on the south side of the residence.
This case remains under investigation by the Howard County Sheriff’s and Coroner’s Offices. Anyone with information reference to this incident is asked to contact Detective Scott Waymire at (765) 456-2020.
This is a developing story; check back later for updates.
