HERRIMAN, Utah (ABC4) — Police and firefighters are on scene of a fire and explosion at a strip mall in Herriman.
Crews are responding to the area of 5100 West and 13400 South. Unified Fire Authority confirms there was a explosion in the structure, and the video above shows the explosion in the structure captured by a UDOT camera.
Herriman Police confirm via X/Twitter that this was a vehicle that crashed into the building, causing the fire and explosion. Police confirm that 13400 South is closed in both directions until further notice.
Herriman Police say residents on Terra Cruz Lane and Parasol Lane have been asked to evacuate to a safe location due to concerns for a gas leak. All residents outside of that immediate area do not need to evacuate now but should remain ready to evacuate.
Herriman City Mayor Lorin Palmer posted on Facebook that Unified Fire is advising anyone that is within a mile of the structure to leave the area until you are notified that it is safe to return.
ABC4 has a crew on scene and will provide updated information as it becomes available.
