According to a press release, officers and park rangers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched to the 7700 block of Lafayette Road around 7:30 p.m. to investigate a shooting. When police arrived at the scene, they located two men with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds near a body of water.
After police located the victims, medics transported them to local hospitals. Both victims were in critical condition when they were taken to area hospitals.
On Saturday night, IMPD confirmed that one of the victims involved in the shooting died at the hospital. Police did not provide an update on the second victim’s medical status in the press release they sent Saturday.
IMPD homicide detectives, members of the Marion County Coroner’s Office and Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency investigators all responded to the scene to work the case. IMPD indicated that the coroner’s office will be the agency that determines the decedent’s exact manner and cause of death.
MCCO will also release the decedent’s name once his family has been properly notified of his death.
On Friday, IMPD indicated that it detained three persons of interest during its investigation of the shooting. Police did not provide an update on the persons of interest it detained when they issued their press release Saturday night.
