From the northeast side to the heart of downtown, floodwaters overwhelmed roads and homes. One dramatic scene on Pulliam Street captured the intensity of the storm. A house was seen floating away with the current.
In the PaulAnn neighborhood, streets were underwater, with several homes surrounded by rising floodwaters. A nearby underpass off the Houston Harte Freeway, near Bell Street, was completely flooded, with more than 10 feet of water pooling in the roadway.
Near downtown, the Irving Street Bridge resembled a river as heavy rain surged through the area.
First responders worked quickly to reach those in need. On the 1500 block of Koberlin Street, San Angelo police and Texas Department of Public Safety troopers assisted in evacuating residents, including a woman who was caught in the rising waters. Street signs were nearly submerged as crews carried out rescues.
At Brewer and Bell, another man had to be rescued after clinging to a pole in high water. Officials say the area was almost unrecognizable due to the extent of the flooding.
A DPS helicopter was also seen flying over San Angelo, assisting in the search for any missing individuals who may have been swept away or trapped.
Authorities are urging residents to stay indoors and avoid travel. San Angelo police issued a clear warning: “Turn around, don’t drown.”
The extent of the damage remains under investigation as emergency crews continue to respond to flooded areas throughout the city.
