Riderless horses lead Coeur d’Alene 4th of July Parade in honor of fallen firefighters

Coeur d’Alene, IDAHO (ABC4) — Two riderless horses led the Coeur d’Alene 4th of July Parade in honor of firefighters shot and killed while responding to a wildfire on Sunday, June 29.

The incident shocked the country as a shooter, later identified as Wess Roley, 20, intentionally set a fire and unleashed a barrage of gunfire on responding firefighters in northern Idaho. The firefighters took cover behind fire trucks, but two died and a third was wounded.

Friday’s 4th of July Parade in Coeur d’Alene honored those firefighters killed, as two riderless horses led the parade carrying the boots of fallen Battalion Chiefs John Morrison and Frank Harwood. The horses were followed by Kootenai County Fire and Rescue and Coeur d’Alene firefighters and their families.

The third, injured firefighter — fire department engineer David Tysdal — remains in the hospital in stable condition.
