Isolated strong storms for our Friday afternoon, but warm and dry south of I-80

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Happy Independence Day, Utah! Our Friday afternoon is going to feature a mix of clouds and sunshine across the state.

For areas south of I-80, look for sunny and very warm temperatures. Highs will warm into the 90s to near 100 near St. George. A disturbance passing by to our north will bring enough moisture for a few isolated storms across northern Utah Friday afternoon. While the storms are expected to be isolated in nature, any one of them could briefly become strong to severe. The main threats would be gusty outflow winds, lightning, and small hail. A Marginal (1/5 risk) has been issued for folks from Utah county and points north Friday afternoon.

Any isolated storm activity should clear the state by later Friday evening, leading to some decent weather for any local firework shows.

High pressure re-builds across the Beehive state this weekend, bringing clear skies and hotter temperatures. Highs along the Wasatch Front will warm into the mid 90s this weekend, meanwhile southwest Utah will see highs warm into the 101 to 103 range.

A Red Flag Warning remains in effect for the west Desert and SW Utah Friday afternoon and evening and could be extended into our Saturday for these same areas. Gusty SW winds, very low humidity levels, and dry vegetation will combine with the hot temps to keep the threat alive through the weekend.

Speaking of heat, it will get even hotter and drier next week! Highs will warm back to the upper 90s to around 100 for the Wasatch Front, and nearing 110 for SW Utah by the middle of next week!
