Deputies say they received complaints of a drunk driver at 5:48 p.m. near 29 Stafford Avenue, where the caller reported a driver “smelled of alcohol” when he arrived to pick up two children from the Courthouse Community Center.
According to deputies, a truck matching the description given by the caller was found on Courthouse Road. Before deputies were able to pull over the driver, the man was seen exiting his vehicle and yelling at the person behind him.
Deputies interrupted the man’s road rage encounter and approached him, noting that he was walking crooked and speaking slurred, in addition to his breath smelling of alcohol, SCSO detailed.
According to deputies, a search of his truck found two children and multiple cans of beer inside. Deputies conducted a field sobriety test, including a breathalyzer, where he blew above the legal limit.
The man was detained and charged with driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content between .15 and .2– with children present, drinking while driving, and two counts of child neglect.
Deputies say the man was transported to the Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $6,000 secured bond, and the children were released to a family member.
