Long Beach Fire Department and U.S. Coast Guard units responded shortly after 10 a.m. to a medical emergency aboard a vessel approximately three miles southeast of the Long Beach breakwater, near Alamitos Bay.
When fire department crews arrived on the scene, Coast Guard personnel were performing CPR on the patient.
“The patient was transported towards shore via LBFD rescue boat,” a fire department spokesperson told KTLA 5 News. “The patient did not respond to the medical treatment and was pronounced (dead) enroute.”
The dive boat eventually returned to Long Beach Harbor. Authorities have not released the victim’s identity.
