Police Supt. Larry Snelling said detectives were working with agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to analyze shell casings recovered on the scene. The evidence suggests that at least two weapons were used in the spray of bullets. Snelling said it appears one of the weapons was a rifle.
Police have so far not offered a motive but said it’s clear the shooting after an album release party for Chicago rapper Mello Buckzz at Artis Restaurant and Lounge was a targeted attack, though it’s unknown for whom the shots were intended.
Family identified one of the victims as Taylor Walker, 26, a South Side hair stylist and friend of the rapper. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office publicly identified the others as Leon Andrew Henry, 25, Aviance King, 27, and Devonte Terrell Williamson, 23.
Williamson was Mello Buckzz’s boyfriend, his mother confirmed to WGN.
Fourteen others were injured in the gunfire.
Authorities have not said how many suspects they’re seeking in the case. Police and city leaders have made a public plea for information that may help with the investigation. Tips may be made anonymously at CPDTip.com.
