Residents across Rock County report gas smell

BELOIT, Wis. (WTVO) — Many residents of Rock County, as far north as Janesville, have reported the smell of natural gas in the air Friday morning.

According to the Beloit Police Department, gas utility Alliant has been notified of the issue and is responding.

The Rock County 911 Communications Center said they have been told the cause is an odorant leak, and the odor is traveling very far.

“Due to the thickness of the air, currently the smell is traveling further than normal,” the agency said.
