On Wednesday, July 2, Governor Josh Shapiro presented the Governor’s Award for Excellence to 11 PennDOT employees who worked during the massive Erie snowstorm in November of 2024.
During that snowstorm, Erie was hit with several feet of snow, causing unsafe road conditions, which resulted in several accidents.
According to PennDOT’s release, over 250 people across several state agencies came to the area to assist in any way they could.
In total, PennDOT worked nearly 170 continuous hours over the span of nine days.
Those being honored for their work during that time include:
PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll, who was in Erie for several days during the snowstorm, was extremely proud of the work done by PennDOT workers during that time.
“The dedication of the PennDOT team under incredibly challenging circumstances cannot be overstated,” said Carroll. “The Thanksgiving storm of 2024 is just one more example of how PennDOT shows up for the traveling public every day: no matter where, no matter when.”
The PennDOT workers honored were among 99 other employees from nine state agencies at the ceremony on Wednesday.
