PROVO, Utah (ABC4) — A man living in Salt Lake City is in jail after an officer observed him allegedly driving under the influence with two minors in the vehicle.
Ivanir Lucas, 49, was arrested on potential charges of two counts of driving under the influence with a juvenile in the vehicle, failure to obey traffic control devices and failure to secure a seatbelt for a child.
According to court documents, on July 3, an officer with the Provo Police Department pulled Lucas over after observing him run a red light. When the officer made contact, he allegedly observed that Lucas had yellowed eyes, dilated pupils and the smell of alcohol coming from his breath.
The officer observed two children in the vehicle, at least one of whom was not wearing a seatbelt.
Due to his concern that Lucas was driving under the influence, the officer asked him to step out of the vehicle and perform a sobriety test. During the sobriety test, the officer allegedly observed that Lucas was swaying, having a difficult time counting, experiencing nystagmus — jerking eyes — and struggling to stand on one foot.
Lucas was arrested and transported to the police station. A breath test showed that he had a blood alcohol content of 0.148%, almost triple the legal limit. Results from a urine test allegedly came back positive for alcohol and THC.
According to documents, Lucas was convicted of a DUI in 2022 and had already been arrested twice for driving under the influence in 2025, making this the third time in the last seven months alone.
Lucas was booked into the Utah County Jail and is currently being held without bail.
