The commission passed the resolution Thursday afternoon that welcomed Senator Sanders for of his “Fighting Oligarchy” rally at the Municipal Auditorium on June 21 that “recognized his years of public service and commitment to issues affecting working families across the nation.”
The resolution did not pass unanimously. Seven commissioners voted in favor, with five against.
The commission did not discuss the resolution.
Parish attorney Donna Frazier said she is reviewing the bylaws in response to Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill’s instruction to the Louisiana Department of Justice to investigate the commission.
Murrill said the commission may have potentially violated an open meeting law when it presented the resolution before adding it to the agenda at a properly held public meeting.
