Two found dead after Hyrum SWAT standoff identified by Cache County Attorney’s Office

HYRUM, Utah (ABC4) — The two found dead after a SWAT incident involving a man’s claim that he had killed his wife on Saturday have been identified.

According to a release from the Cache County Attorney, the victim and suspect found dead after a SWAT incident in Hyrum on Saturday have been identified as Holly Andrade and Jorge Andrade.

Early in the morning of June 29, the press release states that dispatch received a call from a woman reporting that Jorge Andrade had “disclosed to her that he just murdered his wife and was waiting to engage police.” According to a previous press release from the Cache County Sheriff’s Office, he had shown photos of what appeared to be a bomb vest and explosives inside the residence.

Law enforcement responded to his residence at the Valley View Estates Mobile Home Park in Hyrum. Upon arrival, the responding sheriff’s deputy’s patrol vehicle was hit by gunfire from Jorge Andrade. The deputy “took evasive action” and sought cover down the street to call for backup.

Officers and deputies began to arrive from Logan City and other areas of the county, and the SWAT team deployed as well, the press release says. Law enforcement returned gunfire and sought cover as Jorge Andrade allegedly continued to fire at them during their response.

The Logan City Police Department deployed an armored car, and “the stand-off continued for some minutes” until an explosion was heard inside the trailer. After this explosion, “no further shots were fired or heard.”

Law enforcement was uncertain whether Jorge Andrade was still active or alive, so they deployed the armored car with a ram attachment to “breach the structure.” Another armored car arrived with Ogden Metro SWAT, and enough of an opening was created that drones could “assess the situation inside.”

Jorge Andrade was located inside, deceased. His wife, Holly Andrade, was also found deceased inside the residence with multiple knife wounds.

Due to the responding officers’ use of force, an Officer Involved Critical Incident investigation has been launched. That investigation is being conducted by the Northern Utah Critical Incident Protocol Team.
