By rssfeeds-admin According to officials from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, the crash unfolded just after 9:30 p.m. Thursday along Terra Cotta Road near the intersection of Deering Oaks Lane in unincorporated Crystal Lake.
Deputies said the victim, a 15-year-old boy, was riding bicycles with another teen in the area when he was struck from behind by a southbound vehicle.
Following the crash, deputies said the driver fled the scene.
The teen suffered serious injuries in the crash and was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
According to deputies, at the time of the crash, the teen had a red taillight activated.
A search is now underway for the driver involved in the crash.
Deputies say the crash is now being investigated by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
